The fully re-worked engine line-up consisting of two diesel units and one gasoline variant meets Euro 5 emissions standards and guarantees improved driving performance with significantly reduced consumption and emissions. The two available transmissions - a six-speed manual and an automatic - have also been completely newly developed.

The 2.2 CDTI diesel engine comes in two output levels. The 120 kW/163 hp entry level unit develops maximum torque of 350 Nm and is available combined with front or all-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmission. With fuel consumption of 6.3 l/100 km (CO2: 167 g/km), acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 189 km/h (all for front-wheel drive manual gearbox variant), this powertrain offers a balanced union of efficiency and dynamics.

The 135 kW/184 hp top-of-the-line diesel (maximum torque 400 Nm) comes standard with all-wheel drive, is available with both transmission choices and impresses with excellent driving performance (zero to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds; top speed 200 km/h). At the same time, this engine boasts high economy and environmental compatibility with fuel consumption of 6.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 175 g/km).

Alternative to the diesel engines, the 2.4 ECOTEC gasoline engine with 123 kW/167 hp and 230 Nm maximum torque is available with front-wheel drive and manual transmission or all-wheel drive coupled with manual or automatic gearbox. Featuring acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds, a maximum speed of 190 km/h, fuel consumption of 8.8 l/km and CO2 emissions of 206 g/km (manual front-wheel drive version), it leaves virtually nothing to be desired.

Intelligent all-wheel drive system with variable power distribution
The Opel Antara's electronically controlled all-wheel drive system combines the advantages of a front-wheel drive - such as low fuel consumption - with the traction benefits of an all-wheel drive. While the engine normally powers the front wheels, prevailing driving conditions are continuously monitored by the control electronics.

New chassis fine-tuning with dynamic characterRefinements to the chassis and active safety include improvements to the ABS system and the standard fitting of Hill Start Assist (HSA) which prevents roll-back when driving away on grades. Depending on model variant and equipment, distinctive alloy wheels in 17, 18 or 19 inch format contribute to refined handling and the eye-catching looks of the sporty crossover.

Refreshed design with clear brand identity.
The new Opel Antara's accentuated exterior design sports an updated front grille with chrome bezel, characteristic brand chrome cross bar and a bold logo. The chic crossover also boasts new fog lights, rear lights with new graphics and a distinctive underride protection panel in front and rear.

Strong alternative in European mid-size SUV segment
With its attractive looks, state-of-the-art powertrain line-up, active chassis tuning and upscale interior, the Opel Antara is a strong contender in its segment. The sporty crossover also offers excellent value for money: the 123 kW/167 hp 2.4 ECOTEC gasoline unit in the Selection version with front-wheel drive is a very affordable entry level into the Antara model line for a base price of 26,780 euros.

Exciting Addition to Mid-size SUV Segment
2.2 CDTI diesel engine: One of the most efficient in its class
The entry-level diesel is the 2.2 CDTI engine, which is available in two performance levels. The 120 kW/163 hp version can be combined with front or all-wheel drive as well as with manual or automatic transmission. The top 135 kW/184 hp version is also available with both transmission types, while all-wheel drive is standard with this engine.

With a maximum torque of 350 Nm from 1,750 - 2,750 rpm and combined fuel consumption of 6.3 l/100 km (CO2: 167 g/km) in the front-wheel drive manual transmission version, the 163 hp diesel is an attractive base engine for the Antara model line. Acceleration time of 9.9 seconds (zero to 100 km/h) and a top speed of 189 km/h testify to an excellent dynamic potential.

The 184 hp top-of-the-line diesel combined with all-wheel drive impresses with maximum torque of 400 Nm (1,750 - 2,750 rpm) and guarantees excellent handling, superior engine power and comfortable driving in all situations. A sprint time of 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h further demonstrate these qualities. At the same, economy and environmental compatibility remain priorities (fuel consumption: 6.6 l/100 km; emissions: 175 g/km CO2).

This new diesel unit is among the most efficient engines in its displacement class. High specific power output, low emissions, reduced noise and vibrational behavior as well as excellent handling and a long lifespan are ensured by the precise coordination of different components, systems and design features including:
  • Engine block with high structural rigidity (improved noise and vibrational behavior)
  • Engine block cooling jacket with horizontal cooling-fin design (optimized cooling)
  • Dual mass flywheel (reduced drivetrain vibration)
  • Oil-pump integrated balance shaft module (compactness, reduced engine vibration)
  • New DOHC aluminium cylinder head with variable swirl control (flow and swirl properties)
  • Watercooled turbocharger with charge air cooling and variable turbine geometry (cylinder charging and driveability)
  • Maintenance-free camshaft chain drive with automatic chain tensioner
  • Fuel injection pressure up to 1,800 bar (mixture preparation)
  • Compression ratio reduced to 16.3:1 (increased power, reduced emissions and combustion noise)
  • Optimized preheating system (improved cold-weather starting)
  • Exhaust gas recirculation with highly efficient cooling system (emissions reduction)
  • Maintenance-free close-coupled diesel particulate filter (DPF)
  • Pistons with oil-spray cooling
2.4 ECOTEC gasoline engine: Attractive alternative
As an alternative to the two diesel engines, a newly-developed 2.4 ECOTEC gasoline unit is also available for the enhanced Opel Antara. With 123 kW/167 hp and a maximum torque of 230 Nm (at 4,600 rpm), it combines an appealing character with high driving performance. As a front-wheel drive, this engine is available with a manual six-speed transmission, and in all-wheel drive format with either manual or automatic six-speed transmission.

The performance, fuel consumption and emissions data all confirm the effectiveness of this engine. The acceleration time (10.5 seconds), top speed (190 km/h), fuel consumption (8.8 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions (206 g/km) leave virtually nothing to be desired.

The 2.4 ECOTEC engine also offers many technological features. These include:
    • Continuously variable settings on the intake and exhaust camshafts (usable speed range, torque development, fuel economy)
    • Camshaft chain drive (reliability)
    • Noise-optimized piston-skirts
    • Aluminium engine block and cylinder head (weight, engine thermal)
    • Structural oil pan
    • Precision sensors to determine crank and camshaft positions (Timing fuel-mixture preparation, ignition)
    • Pistons with oil-spray cooling
    Optional manual or automatic transmission
Two new six-speed transmission systems, one manually-operated and one automatic, combine efficiency with dynamics and high driving comfort. High-tech details like precision-designed "Monoblock" gear wheels as well as intricately constructed synchronisation features and bearing elements in the manual gearbox ensure minimal operating force is needed, fluent gear changes, and low-vibration and low-friction operation.

New Set-up: Enhanced Agility and More Ride Comfort

The multi-link rear suspension, with three transverse and one trailing link per side, has also been re-designed and fine-tuned. The trailing arms are now hydraulically damped for better structural isolation. Optimized strut mounts and coil springs with increased spring rates also attenuate the impact of road shocks.

In combination with a reinforced stabilizer bar, a wide track (1,569 mm front, 1,576 mm rear) and a wheelbase which is long for this class of vehicle (2,707 mm), these measures guarantee improved road contact, increased driving stability and better balanced suspension comfort.

A wide range of leading-edge assist systems further enhance active safety. They include:
    • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) including ARP (Active Rollover Protection) and CBC (Cornering Brake Control)
    • HSA (Hill Start Assist) to eliminate roll-back on gradients
    • DCS (Descent Control System), which keeps the car at a maximum crawl speed of 10 km/h by braking the front wheels without any intervention by the driver when driving down steep slopes
    • Electronic yawing moment control AOD (Active on Demand), which helps to minimize understeer or oversteer by modulating drive torque between the front and rear axles
    • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) monitors pressure with the aid of sensors integrated in the wheels and activates an individual wheel warning in the driver display if pressure losses exceed 0.3 bar
    • EDC (Engine Drag Control) in the diesel versions increases engine torque if there is any danger of the wheels locking (triggered by high engine-speed leaps when downshifting or quickly releasing the clutch during low traction)
And the Opel Antara has a lot more to offer in terms of utility. All-wheel drive variants can tow loads of up to 2,000 kilograms (front-wheel drive: 1,500 kg) and the trailer stability program (TSP) also ensures any swaying tendencies of the car-trailer combination are recognized by a yaw sensor and effectively prevented by a reduction of engine power and controlled braking.

    Excellent Comfort and High Functionality
The Opel Antara not only combines dynamics and driving performance with prestigious elegance, its thought-through body concept also offers a high degree of comfort and practical functionality. This begins with its length and width (4,596 x 1,850 mm) that don't take up more space than a normal mid-size car and make the striking crossover an ideal companion for urban driving.

The elevated seating positions (vehicle height 1,717 mm) offer an unrestricted all-round view of the road, while the excellent powertrain characteristics and precise handling ensure agility, lively performance and trouble-free maneuvering.

The interior features sophisticated ergonomics one can actually feel thanks to comfortable headroom in front and rear and plenty of space for lateral movement. The rear passenger compartment features tiltable backrests and legroom (946 mm) that is among the most generous in the segment.

The Opel Antara underlines its qualities as a vehicle ideal for traveling or as a variable crossover with convincing characteristics and practical features. Its luggage compartment can carry up to 420 liters of cargo in the normal configuration; this grows to 865 liters when the back seat is folded down and up to 1,420 liters when loaded to the roof. The rear backrest (split 60:40) and the front passenger backrest can be folded down to accommodate objects up to 2.63 meters in length.
